On the initiative of the Embassy of Hungary, the city of Montreal donated a plaque in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight. The plaque was unveiled by Mr. Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montreal and Mr. István Tarlós, Mayor of Budapest in the presence of Mr. Bálint Ódor, Ambassador of Hungary to Canada and Mr. Gyula Szentmihály Honorary Consul. The plaque emphasizes the importance of the events of 1956, and highlights the arrival of thousands of Hungarian refugees who contributed to the development of Canada. The plaque is located on the wall of the building of the Honorary Consulate (address: 65, rue Ontario Ouest, Montréal, Québec, H2X 1Y8).
